PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Despite the threat of rain showers, people from the Central Aroostook Association had fun riding snowmobiles during its highly anticipated Snowmobile Day on Wednesday, March 4.
Nearly 100 individuals from Central Aroostook Association’s Adult Day Program and Opportunity Training Center spent the late morning and early afternoon hours going on snowmobile and tote sled rides on the fields around the Aroostook Shrine Club in Presque Isle.
Members of the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club, officers from the Maine Warden Service and Aroostook State Park staff members provided snowmobile and sled rides throughout the day.
Though much of central Aroostook County saw rain and snow showers on Wednesday, the rain held off long enough for many people to enjoy rides with their friends.
“Oh, I love it,” said Leonna York of Caribou, about snowmobiling. “I like seeing my friends.”
Julia Horst of Bridgewater also said that she looks forward to Snowmobile Day every year.
“My favorite part is going on the rides,” she said.
April Archer, director of adult services for Central Aroostook Association, said that the nonprofit has held Snowmobile Day for more than a decade now. For many people the organization serves, the day offers a chance to try something new and make memories with family members and friends.
“Many people we serve don’t have the opportunity to go on snowmobile rides often, so it gives them a chance to enjoy something fun during the winter,” Archer said.
