Garage, two vehicles lost to fire in Caribou

CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou Fire and Ambulance responded to a structure fire on 72 Madawaska Road on Thursday afternoon. Firefighters were able to save a large piece of equipment, but two vehicles and a garage were damaged by flames.

 

Five full-time firefighters and 10 paid call personnel arrived on the scene as the building was fully engulfed, the fire department said. Contents of the building were also a total loss.

Firefighters from Limestone, Fort Fairfield, Washburn and North Lakes Fire departments provided mutual aid. Caribou Police Department provided traffic control, while Caribou Public Works Department spread sand on the driveway so the crews could walk without slipping.

Caribou Fire Capt. Scott Jackson said the fire was caused by sparks from welding and cutting, and as a result there is no further investigation. No individuals were injured during the incident and the property owner has insurance.
