HOULTON, Maine — Middle and high school students from around Aroostook County showed off their singing chops March 3 at the District 7 Vocal Jazz Festival at the Houlton Community Arts Center.
Seven groups participated in this year’s festival featuring jazz and show choirs from both middle and high schools from Presque Isle, Woodland, Caribou, Easton and Houlton.
All of the groups qualified for states, which will be held on Friday, March 27, for middle schoolers and Saturday, March 28, for high schoolers at Lawrence High School.
“It’s always exciting to see what other schools put together for an event like this,” said RSU 29 music director Kevin Mania. “We have some truly gifted teachers that can pull out the best in our County kids.”
Mark Scally and Sharyn Walker were judges for the festival. Both have been past teachers in Houlton.
