UPDATE: RSU 29 announced the Harlem Superstars event has been canceled due to new coronavirus concerns on Thursday.

HOULTON, Maine — Two nights of dazzling dunks, acrobatic trick shots and plenty of laughs are in the works for two local schools.

The Harlem Superstars comedy basketball team is making stops at Houlton Middle-High School and Katahdin Middle-High School over the next two weeks.

On Friday, March 20, the Superstars will soar into Houlton Middle-High School for a 7 p.m. event. Tickets are $7 in advance or $8 at the door, with a portion of the proceeds going to Houlton’s Project Graduation. Advance tickets are available at the high school office.

Houlton’s show will see the Superstars square off against the Houlton “Senior Dream Team,” featuring seniors Jaron Brewer, David Tucker, Jason Collett, Nolan Jacobs, Keegan Gentle, Amelia Ivey, Abbie Worthley, Will Belyea, Kennedy Buzzeo and Cameron Callnan.

Katahdin Middle-High School will host the Superstars at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28. Tickets can be purchased at either Katahdin Middle-High School or Katahdin Elementary School, and are also available at Richardson’s and Ellis Family Market, both in Patten.

The Katahdin “Senior Dream Team” features Jacob Lane, Jordyn Gardner, Caleb Giles, Garrett Hamm, Blake Howes and Savannah O’Hara.

The Harlem Superstars is a group of talented basketball players whose main mission is to entertain children and their families through “show time” basketball. The shows are filled with fan participation, trick shots, slam dunks and plenty of laughs.

The group often appears at local elementary schools to speak to children about the dangers of drugs and to build up excitement for the show.

Team members include Andre “The Pope” Pope, Donnie “Razzmatazz” Seale, Jimmy “Live Action” Bosque, Kevin “Tiny” Briggs (who stands a whopping seven-feet tall), Roosevelt “Rolex” Lee, John “Magic” Dadzie, and ringleader  Kevin “Showboat” Jackson.
