PATTEN, Maine — Those looking for a shave, haircut or new hairstyle in the Patten area have a new place to frequent following the opening of the Broken Arrow Barbershop and Salon.
The salon, operated by Beth Ann Carver and Kevin Bernier, opened for business in February and has already seen a steady stream of clients looking for a trim or new hairdo. The business offers services for both men and women, including traditional razor cuts for men and the full complement of hair stylings for women.
Conveniently located at 28 U.S. Route 11, next to the Patten Post Office, the Broken Arrow Barbershop and Salon features just one workstation, so Carver and Bernier alternate days they work in the shop. Bernier works Mondays and Wednesdays, while Carver sets up shop Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with Saturdays also an option based on appointments.
If Carver’s name sounds familiar to Patten residents, it should. She has been a hairdresser for 40 years and owned her own shop in Patten for many years before moving to the Bangor area four years ago.
“We [Beth Ann and her husband Dana] moved to Bangor to be closer to our grandchildren, but moved back a few months ago,” Carver said. “While we no longer have family here in the area, Dana and I both feel that the local community is our family. We feel that we fit in and just love it here.”
Carver also works for the state as a cosmetologist examiner on a part-time basis.
Bernier said he only does walk-ins, which often brings interesting people to his barber’s chair. “I love hearing people’s stories,” he said.
Bernier, who also operates Broken Arrow Barber Shack in Medway, has been a classically trained barber for the past four years. He offers the complete barber shop experience with straight-razor shaves and cuts.
“Patten is a growing little town, and I expect things to get a lot busier during the summer,” Bernier said.
