CARIBOU, Maine — Starting Wednesday, March 18, RSU 39 (Caribou and Stockholm) will distribute free breakfast and lunch in six locations throughout the district as schools are closed from March 15 to March 27 in an effort to minimize the potential impact of COVID-19.

The five distribution locations in Caribou are the parking lots of Teague Park Elementary School, Caribou High School, and the former Hilltop Elementary School parking lot in addition to Vickers Drive and the Mill Pond Park. Meals will also be distributed at the Stockholm Town Office.

All meals are free of charge, and breakfast will be distributed in each of these locations from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from 10:45 a.m. to noon.

Students and parents will be able to pick up student belongings from their schools on March 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m., and on Friday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Only 25 individuals will be allowed inside each school at a time.

PreK-five teachers will also distribute learning packets to students during the aforementioned times, and RSU 39 Superintendent Tim Doak wrote that all teacher email addresses are available on the rsu39.org website if any parents need to contact them.

“Once again,” Doak wrote in a letter distributed by RSU 39 on March 17, “I strongly encourage all families to adhere to the social distancing standard. Please try not to frequent crowds of 50 or more, limit unnecessary travel, and keep a watch for people in our community who may be in need of help.”
