LIMESTONE, Maine — The Limestone Board of Selectpeople held an emergency meeting on March 16 in which they discussed steps to take in light of COVID-19 spreading through Maine.
While the meeting was not open to the public, Interim Town Manager Vicki Page said on March 17 that the board decided to close the town office, rec department, and library to the public until further notice. No date has been set for reopening these facilities.
The emergency meeting on Monday was not open to the public for in-person attendance, but was made available through a live broadcast in the interest of public safety.
In the meantime, Page said the town office is still taking phone calls, emails and letters from the public. She said the town is taking general assistance applications over the phone and police officers will deliver vouchers. Tax payments can be sent via mail, and the town office will mail out vital records if necessary.
The town is currently unable to register motor vehicles, as all state branches of the bureau of motor vehicles are closed. Upcoming meetings of town committees and boards are also canceled until further notice.
Starting March 19, the school will deliver breakfasts and lunches to students and siblings 18 years old and younger while they are away from school. Parents interested in having food delivered to their homes are asked to call the Limestone Community School at 207-325-4742.
