CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou Community School construction is still on track to open in mid-September of this year as of Friday.
RSU 39 Superintendent Tim Doak said that unless Gov. Janet Mills ceases all construction in the state, the project will continue.
Roughly 88 people are working on the school project, some based in other parts of Maine and staying in hotels away from their families.
Doak said the school may still be able to open if work is only delayed for a month, but any longer and Pre-K-eight students will have to start the 2020-21 year in Teague Park Elementary School and Caribou Middle School, two facilities that were set for demolition later this year.
As for the project itself, Doak said contractors recently hit a milestone and all concrete has been poured for the stairs.
“We’re on time, and they’re really doing great work,” he said. “We’re working on signage right now, and getting some calls for artwork. Everything is going normally right now — it just depends on what the governor does.”
