Appreciates Sen. Collins’ efforts

To the editor:

As small businesses struggle to hold on until the COVID-19 crisis passes, many have had to make the tough decision to temporarily close their doors, and lay off their valued staff. As a direct result of this, the mass layoffs have caused record-breaking unemployment.

Fortunately, Sen. Susan Collins understands our struggles intimately and has been working hard to protect our livelihoods.

Recently, she authored the Paycheck Protection Program, which has already provided nearly $2 billion in forgivable loans to Maine employers who hire back their full workforce, and maintain payroll through the next eight weeks.

This will help small businesses keep their lights on and nearly 100,000 employees won’t have to worry about where their next paycheck will come from, or struggle with our state’s overburdened unemployment system.

This program will make a tremendous difference for many of our friends and neighbors, and I am thankful to Senator Collins for her efforts on this.

She always works hard to find strong solutions for us here in Maine, and we are very fortunate to have her as Our Senator during this crisis.
