Aid for Kids helps people during time of need

HOULTON, Maine — The “Other Maine” Program of Aid for Kids is on the job during the virus crisis by distributing 2,800 rolls of toilet paper to senior citizens at Ricker Plaza and Market Square Commons, and to families at Kelleran Court, through the school’s food delivery program and the Aroostook County Action Program.

The “Other Maine” Program’s volunteer director is Dannette Ellis who, over a 10-year period has distributed at least $10 million dollars worth (market value) of new, free merchandise to those in need through 150 Non-Profit Distribution Partners in northern, rural Maine and poverty pockets in cities downstate.

Other staff of Aid for Kids are volunteer Executive Director Dawn Degenhardt, and volunteer Administrative Assistant Marilyn Roper. Due to the volunteer staff, the overhead of the agency is under 2 percent every year.

Recently, 13 pallets of new sneakers of all sizes have been received at their distribution center in Houlton. Social workers from local agencies continue to receive needed clothes, household goods and educational toys/books for their clients during the crisis. For assistance, call Ellis at 532-4107.
