Ark Animal Sanctuary – Week of May 11, 2020

We wanted to give you all an update on how The Ark is doing during this pandemic. The doors to The Ark remain closed to the public at this time.

We have had many questions about this so we thought we would clarify. We have a handful of people and they are all volunteers. There are no paid employees, so we are going to air on the side of caution. We would rather be safe than sorry.

The Ark has approximately 50 cats in our care right now, most of which are feral or special needs.  With our special needs cats we want to make sure that whoever adopts them fully understands their needs and special requirements. We want them to meet the cats in person so they can see their personalities and decide if it is the right fit.

While we would love to place every cat in a loving home, we want to make sure that it is the best fit for the cat and the human. If you are interested in a cat, we will gladly set up an appointment.  We will only let one person in at a time  and you must wear gloves and a mask. We can not allow groups of people who want to come in and play with the cats or people who are just passing the time. To make an appointment you can call Lorraine at The Hollywood pet Salon at 532-7387.

We would like to thank those who have continued to support us through this difficult time by dropping off supplies and making donations. We truly appreciate your continued support and generosity.

We are trying to be creative with our fundraising while practicing social distancing. Our first experiment was with a curbside pie sale, which was a huge success so we will be doing more things like that. We are in hopes to get an online auction set up in the next few weeks.  We have also ordered t-shirts and hoodies to sell.

Our fundraising is our main source of income and we are confident that we can make this work.

We had a special project that we were going to unveil, but that got canceled due to the pandemic.  The project is something that we worked on last summer and fall and it was completed in January. It is something that we are very excited about and it will benefit the community. This project was made possible by donations from numerous people who believe in The Ark and the work we do. They were and still are our biggest cheerleaders. The project is dedicated to one very special lady and through this project her legacy lives on.

We are disappointed that we cannot show you first hand by inviting you to come see we will be unveiling it through social media so please stay tuned.

Once again I want to thank everyone for their generosity and donations. I has helped tremendously at a very difficult time when we had no income coming in. Our volunteers are taking very good care of our kitties and everyone is safe and sound.

Thank you for your continued support and as always thank you for reading our column.
