CARIBOU, Maine — Maine-based veterans organization 222 Cares is delivering boxes with enough food to last roughly two weeks to veterans throughout the state.
The organization plans to stop by the Caribou VFW this Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m.
While organization president Robert Jones is no stranger to The County, this will be his first time delivering food boxes to the Caribou VFW as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
All veterans are welcome to drive to the VFW parking lot at 0389 Van Buren Road, where he will check identifications and then load veterans’ vehicles with the supplies, Jones said.
The boxes will contain supplies that can be stored in a pantry and used over time, such as rice, split peas, peanut butter and canned goods as well as juices and milks.
The program is not based on income and all veterans are welcome to stop by and receive one box per person in their household, Jones said.
For those interested in obtaining the food pre-register online at 222cares.org, by scrolling down to the “Feeding Veterans” link on the page and filling out the form.
Anyone with questions can call Jones at 207-852-0946.
“I’m fortunate to be able to help with this,” he said. “I love talking to veterans and the family members who support them. I always come home tired, but it’s a great kind of tired.”
