115 Years Ago – May 24, 1905
Store — On Monday this week the store of H.A. Edwards & Co. changed owners, the new proprietors being George Smith and Charles Bishop.
Cold — The month of May has made a record for itself as far as being one of the coldest Mays Aroostook has ever seen.
100 Years Ago – May 27, 1920
Shop — The old George Shaw Blacksmith’s Shop at Shaw’s Crossing of the C.P. Tracks has been torn down, thus removing one more of the old landmarks from town.
75 Years Ago – May 24, 1945
Fishermen — The youngest fisherman that Stockholm has ever known is Michael Sandstrom, age 2. While fishing with his father, Gunnar Sandstrom, at Long Lake, Michael caught a two-pound salmon.
Stockholm — The Improvement Society has been very busy this spring. 125 Chinese elm trees have been bought and planted throughout the town.
50 Years Ago – May 27, 1970
Washburn hosts concert — The Washburn District High School Band held its annual exchange concert in the gymnasium with Machias Memorial High School musicians as guests. The Machias Band members stayed at the homes of Washburn Band members. The following morning the group was taken on a tour of the Taterstate Frozen Food plant in Washburn.
Entertain mothers at tea — Members of the Busy Hands 4-H Club entertained their mothers at a tea party at the Youth Center in Crouseville.
25 Years Ago – May 24, 1995
Limestone breaks ground for Michaud Park Pavilion — Limestone residents in about a month will have the pleasure of being able to hold outdoor family and civic group meetings and meals in a new pavilion at Albert Michaud Park. Recreation officials broke ground Saturday for the new pavilion and an upgrade to the public playground facilities.
Fishing luck — Ryan Leavitt of Woodland, the 9-year-old son of David and Cathy Leavitt, caught a 22 inch 2 ½ lb Cusk from Square Lake while ice fishing in March with his father, David, and his father’s long time friend, Randy Wilcox of Woodland.
