CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou City Council unanimously approved 8 a.m. as the opening time for the July 14 primary election as well as a warden and two deputy wardens, during a June 1 council meeting.
The council voted to appoint City Clerk Jayne Farrin as election warden, and both Danielle McLaughlin and Cherie Garman as deputy election wardens.
Farrin told the council that while the election is more than a month away, she would prefer to ensure that these appointments are taken care of ahead of time.
She is also encouraging residents to vote via absentee ballot if possible, as they can now obtain and return absentee ballots up to the day of the election as opposed to the Thursday before the election.
Anyone interested in obtaining an absentee ballot can do so by visiting the city website, requesting an absentee ballot via the state website, or by calling the city office directly at 207-493-3324.
Voters not belonging to a political party will still be able to vote on two bond issues: a $105 million transportation bond and a $15 million bond for high-speed internet access in unserved or underserved rural areas that will match up to $30 worth of funds from other sources.
The election is scheduled to take place at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center on 55 Bennett Drive.
