PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954, for the sixth consecutive year, are sponsoring the Elks Junior Golf League at the Presque Isle Country Club.
The Elks Junior Golf League program provides free golf instruction on Friday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. Supervised team golf play takes place on Sunday evenings at 5 p.m., beginning this Sunday, June 14.
For any young person who does not have their own golf equipment or available transportation, the Elks, in conjunction with the Country Club, will assure that equipment and/or transportation is provided.
Any young person entering grades 3 through 8 is eligible to register for the Elks Junior Golf League. The only requirement is the desire to learn the game of golf.
To sign up for this program, go to the Presque Isle Country Club, located on the Parkhurst Siding Road in Presque Isle, or call 764-0430.
The Elks National Foundation previously provided grants to the local lodge, which allowed it to provide golf equipment and balls for any young person not having their own equipment. Junior Golf participants do not pay a greens fee, and there is no charge for Friday morning instruction.
Young people who would like to learn golf this summer but are without transportation to the Country Club can call 764-0131 in order to arrange rides.
The Presque Isle Country Club’s pro, Barry Madore, is an Elks member and will chair this program.
“The Elks National Foundation, on the basis of the goals of the Junior Golf League, for several years deemed it worthy of a national grant in order to ensure that any young person entering grades 3 through 8, with a desire to learn the game of golf, is given an opportunity to do so,” Madore said. “The Presque Isle Elks and the Presque Isle Country Club will continue to provide everything necessary, except the young person’s desire.”
