HOULTON, Maine — The Southern Aroostook Vocational Educators (SAVE) Association at Region Two School of Applied Technology has announced the recipient of the ACT Initiative Scholarship for 2020.
Lexi Crouse, the daughter of Eric and Krista Crouse of Houlton, is this year’s recipient. Crouse has been a student in the Early Childhood Education program at Region Two for two years and was recently announced as their Student of the Year.
Crouse has been an active participant of the Bridge Year program while attending Region Two, which she has utilized to earn an impressive 33 college credits by her high school graduation through participation in a variety of dual-enrollment opportunities including 9 credits in Early Childhood Education from her CTE program.
She has also been involved in the Olympia Snow Program and EMBARK. She is a member of both National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society with a 4.0 GPA. During her time at Region Two Lexi has earned a variety of certifications and stackable credentials including CPR/First Aid/AED Certification, Fire Extinguisher Safety Training, OSHA-10 (General Industry), Ever-Fi Financial Literacy Training, CareerSafe Employability Training, ServSafe Food Handler’s Training, and Mandated Reporter Training. Crouse also participated in the State-Wide Early Childhood Education Conference “Connecting ECE: Birth Through 8 Across the State,” where she earned seven contact hours in her selected field of study.
She will continue to pursue her early childhood education career at the University of New England in the fall where she will double-major in Elementary Education and Social Work. She hopes to become a preschool or kindergarten teacher in a Montessori school upon completion of her degrees there.
