PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Longtime Presque Isle Director of Recreation & Parks, Chris Beaulieu, resigned on May 3 effective May 15, according to a document released by Presque Isle City Manager Martin Puckett on Thursday.
Beaulieu had been employed with the city for nearly 20 years. He did not provide an explanation for why he was leaving in his letter to Puckett — only that he was pursuing “other opportunities.”
In the letter, Beaulieu said he was tendering his resignation with “some sadness and regret” as well as “hopefulness” concerning future opportunities. He said he enjoyed his time working for the city, especially praising the parents who had assisted him and the many children he had served.
Beaulieu also said that he would use his last two weeks in his position to make it as easy as possible for the city to transition to a new director.
Puckett said that two people have taken on interim positions to replace Beaulieu — Andrew Perry as director of recreational programming and Tyler Clark as head of park and recreational facilities.
Beaulieu’s resignation was not mentioned in the Presque Isle City Council meeting on May 6 — which Beaulieu participated in over Zoom two days after he tendered his resignation — or the city council meeting on June 3.
The city placed a job posting for the position on its Facebook page on May 11.
Presque Isle’s recreation and parks department usually organizes several programs throughout the year, including basketball, soccer and kayaking.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has limited many of the department’s planned activities, it plans on organizing archery, softball and mountain biking, among other activities this summer.
