HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Higher Education Center will unveil a new interactive summer reading program, Friday, July 31, in the hopes of stimulating young minds.
According to Tracy Rockwell, director of the HHEC, a “Share your story on a stone” program will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center. In order to participate, children must come to the center with a painted rock and if they do so, they will receive an age-appropriate book in return.
The painted rocks will then be placed in the center’s garden beds around the exterior of the building, located at 18 Military St.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, parents and children are asked to remain in their vehicles for the exchange. A drive-thru will be set up with parents or children placing their stone on a table. The vehicle will then pull ahead to the next table where they will receive their free book.
