WASHBURN, Maine — The June meeting of the Salmon Brook Historical Society was held recently at the home of Bill and Carol White.
The following volunteers were elected officers for 2020-2021: president, Larry Hallowell; vice president, Rita Kingsbury; secretary, Patty Reed; treasurer, James Reed; board of directors members, Bill White, Dennis Harris and David Wilson; and building and grounds, Larry Hallowell.
The Salmon Brook Historical Society is comprised of the Benjamin Wilder House and the Aroostook County Agricultural Museum. It is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to preserving the local history of Aroostook.
The society is in the process of planning a much-needed addition to the museums. Space to accommodate additional agricultural and veteran-related artifacts will be added. Work has already begun, although all funds have yet to be raised. This year is particularly difficult as the group cannot have its usual fundraising activities due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The members are working on several sources for funding and have received several major donations from businesses in Presque Isle, but and more is needed to reach the goal of $25,000.
Members also voted to open the museum by appointment only after July 15. Families or groups wishing to visit the museum can book an appointment by calling Wanita Hallowell at 863-398-0311 or Larry Hallowell at 863-397-1259. Visitors are asked to bring a mask. Gloves will be provided.
Donations for the tours will be appreciated.
