PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Though many activities have been canceled amid due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Presque Isle Historical Society is open for business. The society has adjusted offerings based on states guidelines for public safety.
Although trolley tours have been discontinued for the summer, there are several other fun offerings available, said Kimberly Smith of the society.
On Friday, September 11, join the historical society for a guided walking tour of historic Fairmount Cemetery, located at 2 Houlton Road. The tour starts at 5:30 p.m. next to the Civil War Monument. Parking is across the street at the Chamber office. There are lots of hills, Smith said, so participants should wear comfortable shoes.
Reservations are suggested. As the tour is outside, face coverings are optional, although social distancing will be in effect.
The Maysville Museum located at 165 Caribou Road is also open through October. Face coverings are required, but no reservations are needed and admission is free. The museum will be open Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other days and times can be arranged by appointment.
Additional tours are scheduled throughout September and October. Visit the Society’s website at www.pihistory.org for tour fees, dates and times. Among the special events are Heritage Day at the Museum, Haunted Lantern Tours and Roosevelt Day at the Museum.
