HOULTON, Maine — Three southern Aroostook County residents were charged with drug crimes Sunday, Sept. 6, following an early morning traffic stop.
Just before 1 a.m., Houlton Officer Travis Smith initiated a traffic stop on North Street with three people familiar to police in the vehicle. With the assistance of Officer Russell Scooby, the Maine State Police, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency a large amount of illicit drugs and cash were confiscated.
Three individuals were charged in connection with the crime. Arrested were Nicolette Tompkins, 21, of Houlton, Andrew J. Adams, 28, of Bangor and Danielle L. Shields Shaw, 29, of Houlton.
HPD confiscated more than 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine, more than 250 grams of suspected Fentanyl, several miscellaneous items of drug paraphernalia along with more than $20,000 in cash. The vehicle was also seized as a result of the investigation.
Tompkins was charged with aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs (Fentanyl), which is a Class A crime; aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs (methamphetamine), which is a Class A crime; and violating conditions of release.
Adams was charged with aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs (Fentanyl); aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs (methamphetamine); and violating conditions of release.
Shields Shaw was charged with aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs (Fentanyl) and aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs (methamphetamine).
“HPD has a zero tolerance for illicit drugs in our community and works continuously on this objective making it a priority,” Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca said.
As of Friday morning, Shaw had been released on bail, while Adams and Tompkins remained in jail. All three are expected to appear in District Court Nov. 3.
