Conductor — The many friends of Pat Gillen, popular B & A conductor, are pleased to see him back on the Caribou run again, after being on a transfer to the Greenville run during the summer.
75 Years Ago – Sept. 20, 1945
New Johnston Store opening up Saturday — The bigger and better-than-ever Johnston’s Jewelry, Gift and Art Shop will reopen in its former location in the Bank Building on Sweden Street this Saturday, September 22, E.J. Johnston has announced. This new store, the largest of its kind in the State of Maine, has been planned by store architects to give every available service to shoppers.
50 Years Ago – Sept. 23, 1970
New boat launch — A new launch will be developed this fall on Trafton Lake in Limestone. There are plans for a new boat launch, swimming area and a beach at the lake.
Craft Fair A Feature of Anniversary Events — The recognition of the Sesquicentennial of the State of Maine, will be a week long series of events taking place in Caribou. An attraction of the week will be the second annual Arts and Crafts Fair sponsored by the Northern Maine Artisans to be held Oct. 30 and 31 and Nov. 1 at the General Carter Armoury.
25 Years Ago – Sept. 20, 1995
Woodland fourth-graders score above state average — Woodland fourth grade students scored above average in reading, writing, social studies, arts, humanities and health on the 1995 Maine Educational Assessment tests. Members of Woodland School Committee learned of the results at their Sept. 11 meeting.
Swedish Colony — Leif Erikson Day will be observed by Maine’s Swedish Colony this fall. Congress has designated Oct. 9 Leif Erikson Day, which falls on Columbus Day in 1995. The day is celebrated with lectures about the Viking World and Viking Explorations of North America at their historical facilities.
