PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The American Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid is a course for people who spend time in remote areas where it would take the first responders amore than 30 minutes to get to them.
The course is being offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27 at Aroostook State Park.
Participants must be over 14 years of age and hold a current first aid/CPR certification. Classes will include information for primary and secondary assessments; head/brain, spinal and neck injuries; burns; allergies and anaphylaxis; environmental emergencies; wounds; bone and joint injuries; abdominal problems; and many other issues that may come up in a wilderness or remote experience.
The program is $75 plus the $3 a day park fee per person and is being taught by three highly trained instructors who have spent a good part of their adult life in these wilderness and remote situations. They not only bring their training but their experience to the program. Bring a lunch, dress for the weather because we will be outside the entire time and sign up as soon as possible. The fee covers materials needed for the course and a workbook.
