CARIBOU, Maine — The Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony was cancelled this year due to concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a release sent on behalf of the cemetery by Karen Gonya, communications manager of Northern Light Health in Presque Isle, the NMVC Corporation announced that it would not be holding the Nov. 11 event this year.
“The Veterans Day remembrance ceremony normally held at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery is cancelled this year due to COVID-19 risks/precautions,” the notice read. “We want all our veterans to remain safe this coming Veterans Day and ask every American to keep all those who have answered the call to service in your hearts and minds.”
Earlier this year, the facility also cancelled its May 11 Flag Raising Day and May 25 Memorial Day ceremonies this year due to concerns amid the pandemic
