New Teacher — Miss Edith Richards started Monday for Washburn Elementary School where she will teach the primary school children.
Horses — In the strongest competition of draft colts ever shown in New England, George Ginn carried the first two premiums with two Clydesdale colts bought by Lord Stanley.
100 Years Ago – Oct. 14, 1920
Potatoes — The C.P.R. shipped 27 carloads of potatoes recently. Many of them were turned down because of rot.
Teacher – – Miss Margorie Hamilton began her duties as English and French teacher in Fort Fairfield High School on Oct. 4.
75 Years Ago – Oct. 11, 1945
Visitor — Mr. Norbert Murray of Boston, 20th Century Fox Film Corporation, is expected to be a guest at the Vaughn House in Caribou this week.
Grocery Store — Niles Parker of Limestone has sold his grocery business to Winston Robbins.
50 Years Ago – Oct. 14, 1970
The Way I Hear It — A big bull moose was seen at the Lane Construction gravel pit on the Belyea Farm this week. Mrs. Belyea went out to get a good look at him and found him very displeased at the interest in him. She, quite frightened by his anger, quickly ran home.
Flood Control — The structure known as the Noyes Brook Flood Control Watershed Project has already in its early life functioned to save considerable flood damage to the townspeople of Limestone, according to local residents. This site was just completed last month and during the storm of Oct. 3 held back water eight feet about the spillway.
25 Years Ago – Oct. 11, 1995
At Tinker Dam — The third-graders at the Woodland Consolidated School took a field trip to the Tinker Dam Hydroelectric Power Plant in New Brunswick recently. Nancy Jackson served as tour guide for the event.
Fire Prevention Week Observed — National Fire Prevention Week is being observed Oct. 8-14 and this year’s theme is “Watch What You Heat: Prevent Home Fires.” The Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department observed the week with an open house last Sunday, where displays of equipment and guided tours were held. Caribou Fire Chief Roy Woods said home and business fire inspections are conducted not only during this special week but year-round by request.
