HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Rotary Club welcomed Tina Corey on Oct. 5 to speak about the program “Quilts of Valor.”
A guest of Rotarian Mark Lunn, Corey explained that Quilts of Valor Foundation was created to honor and cover service members and veterans touched by war with a quilt made specially for them. Each quilt is designed to help comfort and heal.
Corey is a member of four quilting guilds between the United States and Canada. She and others in the guilds have actively participated in efforts to acknowledge local service members and veterans by making several hand sewn and quilted quilts to honor them with.
“When presentations of these quilts are made, the ceremonies are very heartfelt and touching,” said Corey. “The recipient typically doesn’t know they are getting one of these quilts and the ceremonies are very emotional.”
