CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Community School is still on track to begin in-person classes on Monday, Nov. 9, according to RSU 39 (Caribou and Stockholm) Superintendent Tim Doak.
While Caribou High School and the Caribou Technology Center have entered remote learning because of two positive COVID-19 cases, no individuals associated with the Caribou Community School are currently thought to have had any contact that would put them in danger of contracting the virus as of Nov. 5.
He said that contact tracing is still occurring and that additional testing began on Nov. 5, adding that the decision to open Caribou Community School to in-person learning may change if any additional positive cases are found.
In the event that additional positive cases are found, then those who were within close contact or a close contact of the two who originally tested positive would need to be tested.
“Everyone should be self-monitoring,” he said. “If we find out that a close contact has contracted the virus, then we will re-contact trace with their contacts.”
Overall, he said the staff and teachers are looking forward to enjoying the first day of school with student attendance.
“It’s been long awaited,” he said. “We are really impressed with our online learning program, but having face to face instruction is important, and we’re all excited to be there. It was a real moment for us when the teachers got to be there on Tuesday, but when the students show up on Monday it’s going to be really special.”
