HOULTON, Maine — A fire broke out on Veterans Day at one of the wood chippers at the Gardner Chip Mill on Houlton’s B Road.
The fire broke out around 9:25 a.m. on Nov. 11, with almost a dozen firefighters arriving to extinguish the fire. Calls were sent out to the Hodgdon and Linneus fire departments as well to provide backup.
DJ Norton, a member of the Houlton Fire Department, said it took approximately an hour to put out the fire.
“We were on the scene at 9:30, and the fire was extinguished around 10:30,” said Norton. “The equipment probably sparked something, and put the chips on fire.”
While the fire is believed to have been started by some of the wood chipping equipment, it does not appear any equipment received any serious damage. There were no injuries reported.
