CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou Community School has gone to remote learning as of Tuesday, Nov. 24, after a positive COVID-19 case was found within the school on Nov. 23, according to a letter from RSU 39 (Caribou and Stockholm) Superintendent Tim Doak.
The letter, which was sent to parents and guardians and also posted on the school’s social media on Monday night, said that the person who received the positive test result is in isolation at home and will only return to school once the Maine CDC provides clearance.
“As planned, school personnel immediately activated our contact tracing protocol and will begin reaching out to people in our school community who have been in close contact with the individual,” Doak wrote. “School personnel have also reached out to the Maine CDC to help with establishing a thorough tracing program.”
The brand new school opened to students on Nov. 9.
The superintendent wrote that the school is going remote as a precautionary measure and that they will provide an update to the community on Nov. 25 regarding when the school might return to in-person instruction.
In addition, please take social distancing seriously: avoid crowds, stay at home, and maintain at least six-foot distance from other people,” Doak wrote. “We recommend that you act to help limit the spread of COVID-19, even if your child is not experiencing symptoms.”
