To the editor:
I have lived in Maine for 32 years, Castle Hill and then Presque Isle. I was once head selectman in Castle Hill. This is my home and my children’s birthplace, and you are my neighbors. I am a conservative Democrat, but this in no way affects my love of my town, my county, my state or my neighbors.
My neighbor (and probably many others) is a Republican, and we can walk across the street, meet in the middle, and talk politics without accusation or finger-pointing.
I was very disappointed in The Star-Herald last week when two front-page articles featured President Trump but made no mention of president-elect Biden and vice president-elect Harris.
The national news has reported on the COVID crisis and the election, not seen in my local paper. At least 30 suits brought by President Trump and his election campaign and lawyers have already been dismissed or withdrawn.
I read the “Our [Readers] Write” this week and was disappointed again. We all have to move on, on who won the election.
I do feel that the COVID crisis has been underreported. I read The Star-Herald cover to cover weekly and love the paper, I just feel that it has been light on COVID coverage and recommendations.
There was a picture on page 1B of people that I respect, having food without masks and without social distancing. This troubles me and scares me.
Let us, as Americans, accept the outcome of the vote, work together to prevent the virus from spreading through The County and country, be Mainers who are independent, and ask for bipartisanship in our news reporting and our relationships.
