PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A federal court in Bangor has sentenced a Presque Isle man to more than seven years in prison after he pleaded guilty to distributing methamphetamine.
Andrew Maynard, 30, was sentenced to 92 months in prison and three years of supervised release on Wednesday for selling a large amount of methamphetamine in northern Maine, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maine Halsey Frank said. He had pleaded guilty to the charges in March.
Between January 2017 and August 2018, Maynard took part in a drug operation that distributed methamphetamine obtained in Colorado and Arizona across northern Maine, Frank said.
Maynard was one of several people from Aroostook County indicted on drug distribution charges in July 2019, including those from Presque Isle, Easton and Caribou. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency investigated the case.
Maynard was also arrested in January after he attempted to smuggle fentanyl, methamphetamine and prescription drugs into the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. He was on pretrial release at the time of that arrest.
Methamphetamine use contributes to high levels of substance use disorder in Presque Isle and Aroostook County, an issue that local police have sometimes struggled to contain.
