A Caribou man is facing several charges after allegedly speeding away on his motorcycle as an officer attempted a traffic stop.

Jared Simonds, 50, of Caribou has been charged with exceeding the speed limit by 30+ mph, eluding an officer, attaching false plates to his motorcycle and driving after a license suspension.

Simonds was traveling on High Street at around 1:45 a.m. on Thursday when Sgt. Chad Cochran of Caribou Police began following him.

Simonds allegedly made a series of turns onto side streets, in what appeared to be an attempt to avoid the officer, police said.

Cochran attempted to stop Simonds on South Main Street near Armco Avenue, but Simonds sped away.

After two miles of eluding the officer, Simonds crashed near North Country Animal Hospital after failing to negotiate a curve on South Main Street, Caribou Police said.

Simonds was arrested and Caribou Fire and Ambulance transported him to Cary Medical Center for possible injuries.

Maine State Police was also involved in Simonds’ arrest.
