75 Years Ago – Dec. 13, 1945
Presque Isle man was chosen to run Nevada Airport — George West, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. West of Presque Isle, left for Las Vegas, Nevada, joining his business associate, John Flynn, in taking over the operation of the Las Vegas Air Field.
West and Flynn, former Pan-American pilots, also operated a charter flight service at Anchorage, Alaska. Mr. West received his honorable discharge from the Army, a graduate of Parks Air College. Previous to his entrance in the Armed Forces, he served as special representative for Lockheed on the East Coast and as Supt. of Maintenance for the Alaska Airways, at Anchorage, Alaska.
C. A. Jamieson was elected to the advisory committee — Charles A. Jamieson of this city, a director of the Aroostook Valley National Farm Loan Association of Presque Isle, was elected to membership on an eleven-man advisory committee by the directors of the seven cooperative farm loan associations in Aroostook County at a meeting held at the Northeastland Hotel. He succeeded Raymond W. Buck of Monticello. The association, which had nearly 800 farmer members, had obtained Federal Land Bank loans of over $12,500,000 for more than 400 farmers in the county during the previous 25 years.
50 Years Ago – Dec. 16, 1970
Marino elected vice president — A Presque Isle man was one of three new vice presidents elected by Milliken, Tomlinson Co. directors Dec. 9, following the annual meeting of stockholders of the service supply house for IGA stores in Maine and part of New Hampshire. They were Robert S. Marino, Robert G. Dillenback and John E. Rand. Marino, 47, of Presque Isle, joined the company in 1958. He was the manager of the Presque Isle division of the company.
McDougal’s accomplishment — Navy Ensign Willard B. McDougal, son of Mrs. Glenwood M. McDougal of Washburn, completed his first step toward becoming a Naval aviator by soloing the Navy “Mentor” aircraft with Training Squadron One at the Naval Air Station Saufley Field, Pensacola, Florida. After completing approximately 18 months of training, he was eligible for his “Wings of Gold,” designating him a Naval Aviator. McDougal was a 1970 graduate of the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.

Lombard named United Way campaign head — Lynn Lombard, vice president and director of human resources for Maine Mutual Fire Insurance Company, was 1995 United Way fundraising campaign chairperson. Lombard was also a member of the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club; served on the boards of Sinawik; Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce; BDL, Inc.; and Employment & Partnership Council. She also served on NMTC’s Tech Prep Steering Board and Accounting Department Advisory Council.
TAMC recognized — The Aroostook Medical Center was recognized by the American Hospital Association for 75 years of active membership in the AHA organizations. “This milestone is evidence of TAMC’s commitment to joining in a collaborative effort to shape healthcare policy for the nation,” said Jack Berry, Northeast Regional Legislative Director for AHA. “With what is happening in Washington, D.C., it is ever so important that we have the leadership of TAMC and other health organizations involved in creating a better quality of life in our communities.”
