MARS HILL, Maine — Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School and Fort Street Elementary School will go remote until after Christmas break after several students may have had contact with a person with COVID-19, SAD 42 Superintendent Elaine Boulier said Wednesday night.
School will not be in session on Thursday as teachers prepare for remote learning in the coming days. Junior high and high school students will begin remote learning on Friday, while PK-6 students will begin on Monday.
Boulier did not give an exact timetable on when students would return to in-person learning, but said the district would keep parents informed via robocalls and the school website.
She also said parents may be notified if their children were a direct contact of the undisclosed person with COVID-19.
This is the third time SAD 42 schools have gone remote in two months: closings also came in early and late November.
It also comes as COVID-19 cases rapidly rise across Aroostook County: active cases have risen from 37 on Nov. 30 to 110 on Dec. 9.
