HODGDON, Maine — At a special town meeting held on Thursday, Dec. 10, the town of Hodgdon voted to adopt a TRIO software system for all town accounting needs, bringing a much-needed update to its accounting system.
The meeting, which took place at Hodgdon Middle/High School, saw a gathering of the town’s selectmen along with Town Manager Jim Griffin to approve the adoption of the new software, which will make it easier and more efficient for the town to process town matters such as vehicle registrations and storing of expense receipts.
“Currently, we have a system where you do a registration, then you put a receipt in, then it has to be put into the accounting,” said Griffin. “This new system is all inclusive, in other words when we do registration, the information is already there.”
Along with the user license for TRIO, the town’s purchase also includes licenses for the software’s capability for motor vehicle registration, cash receiving and tax collection. It also includes fees for professional services pertaining to training and implementation of the new software.
The total amount of all purchases for the town comes to $27,170 and will be taken out of the town’s surplus budget.
The TRIO software system is a product of Harris Local Government, a division of the Ottawa-based company Harris Computer Corporation. Several other towns in the southern Aroostook area, such as Houlton, Amity and New Limerick have already adopted the TRIO software for their town offices.
