Let light shine

We are now entering the period of greatest darkness, where days are short and dark nights are long.

To listen to any of the news programs, all are facing a deep period of dark. Many tables will be hosting an empty seat or two. This hydra and all her ilk are seeking to destroy the spirits.

While the seats are empty, our hearts and memories are filled with joys of family and friends now gone. Let us celebrate their joy with light. Decorate the homes and trees with lights. Leave these lights, the red, green, blue, orange and yellow, to challenge the darkness, to fill those empty spots hat plague us all.

Let their joy kindle our own fires and memories of times now past. May those little lights inspire us all to keep going. Long live the light.

The measure of a person can be seen in the work they leave behind. Forty years have passed since my dad passed. We celebrate the patients he championed and the medicine he brought.

Two of his young charges, Fred and Tim, have now left us. While their families grieve, joy is to be found in the life those two youngsters brought to their own families. May the families find comfort in that love.

As this is the season for joy, rejoice in the glow of simple sparks on the night sky. Chase away the dark, as spring shall soon be here. Turn on the lights.
