December vacation activities at Houlton Recreation Center

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department will be offering the following activities during the December school vacation break. 

All Maine CDC guidelines will be enforced to insure a safe experience, according to Recreation Director Marie Carmichael. 

Vacation Fun Programs, open to grades Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6, will be held starting Monday, Dec. 28. The cost to attend programs is $10 per day per child and each day is limited to 12 children. Pre-registration is required by Thursday, Dec. 24, at 532-1310.

On Monday, Dec. 28, Lego Fun will be held; Tuesday, Dec. 29, is Science Fun; Wednesday, Dec. 30, is Crafts and Games; and Thursday, Dec. 31, will be New Year’s Fun. These programs are all held from 9-11 a.m. each morning. Masks are mandatory. 

Also available will be Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing at Houlton Community Park from Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 1-3 p.m. (weather permitting). This free activity requires people to pre-register by calling the Rec Department by Dec. 28 at 532-1310. Masks are mandatory. The Winter Sports Trailer will have a variety of sizes of ski packages and snowshoes for the public’s use. 

Open gym and game room hours during the vacation break at the Recreation Department will be Monday, Dec, 28 through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 1-3 p.m. Masks are mandatory. 

Walkers are welcome through the vacation break from Monday, Dec. 28 through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Masks are mandatory.  

Adult Pickleball will be held from 8-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, and Thursday, Dec. 31. Cost is $2 per person per day. 

Games Galore and More is a youth after school program being offered in January for Grades K to 6. This four-week program will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the Rec Center. The cost is $60 Houlton residents and $80 for non-Houlton residents. This program is limited to 12 children.  The program runs from 1:45-5 p.m. To register your child, call the department at 532-1310 by Dec. 28. Masks are mandatory.
