PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A person associated with Presque Isle High School has tested positive for COVID-19, according to SAD 1 superintendent Ben Greenlaw.
Students at the high school were being dismissed at 11:30 a.m. due to the positive test result, Greenlaw said Tuesday morning. Students at the other SAD 1 schools will be dismissed at their usual times.
“Currently, members of the SAD 1 Health Services Department are notifying close contacts of the individual,” Greenlaw said, in a letter to parents. “[They] will be directing students and staff who are considered close contacts to quarantine for 10 days.”
Greenlaw did not specify whether the individual is a student or staff member or whether the case at the high school is connected to a positive case that closed Pine Street Elementary School on Monday. He said he expects to provide an update regarding in-person instruction to the district Tuesday afternoon.
The positive case at Presque Isle High School comes nearly a week after SAD 42 in Mars Hill transitioned to remote learning due to many positive cases in the surrounding community. SAD 45 in Washburn has opted for a temporary hybrid learning period due to rising case numbers across Aroostook County.
