SAD 42 returning to in-person learning Monday following COVID cases

MARS HILL, Maine — After several weeks of remote instruction, students in SAD 42 will return to school Monday.

The decision to go remote came when 13 people within the district tested positive after a person’s initial positive result the first week of January. More than 100 close contacts self-isolated as a result. Superintendent Elaine Boulier previously said that the cases had come from community spread of COVID-19, not from within the district’s two schools.

“The majority of staff and students have or will be completing isolation periods this week,” Boulier said, in an updated letter to parents on Wednesday. “We have had no further positive COVID-19 cases.”

Boulier reminded families that even though the number of local cases has stabilized, there are still positive cases within the community and caution should be taken to avoid spreading COVID-19 in the district.
