Houlton women pray for unborn babies

HOULTON, Maine — Friday marked the 48th anniversary of the historic Roe vs. Wade court decision which legalized abortions.

As part of an ongoing effort seeking an end to such medical procedures, two Houlton women felt compelled to march through the Shiretown in an effort to raise awareness for the historic court decision.

“In those 48 years, 63 million babies have been murdered,” Peggy Robinson of Houlton said. “We have been in much prayer and decided to make a sign and march around Houlton to bring awareness for those lives lost.”

Robinson was joined by Peg Luciani of Houlton and the two women walked through downtown Houlton, stopping at the District Court House as a form of a peaceful protest to abortions.

Roe v. Wade was a landmark legal decision issued on Jan. 22, 1973, in which the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a Texas statute banning abortion. That measure effectively legalized abortions in the United States.

This past fall, Robinson spearheaded the local effort of the nationwide “40 Days of Life” prayer movement, which sought to end the practice in the greater Houlton area.
