WASHBURN, Maine — Students from SAD 45 in Washburn will learn remotely for at least a week due to a confirmed COVID-19 case in the district.
In a letter sent to parents on Friday, Superintendent Larry Worcester said that the district is working with the Maine CDC to conduct contact tracing and notify anyone who has been in contact with the person who has tested positive.
SAD 45 adopted a hybrid learning plan in early January in response to rising case numbers in Washburn and nearby communities. The district originally planned to return to a full in-person model on Feb. 15 before learning of the confirmed case.
Now SAD 45 teachers are spending Monday preparing for fully online instruction before students begin the new school week on Tuesday. The Washburn schools currently plan to stick with the remote model for the remainder of this week.
Worcester did not specify when the district might resume a hybrid or in-person model but encouraged parents to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and to isolate for 10 days if they must be tested.
