HOULTON, Maine — A strong second-half surge carried the Houlton girls to a 64-41 victory over visiting Caribou Friday evening.
Leading by just six points at the halftime break, the Shires used a pressing defense in the second half to force a number of Viking turnovers to break open what had been a tightly contested game through the first two quarters. Houlton outscored Caribou 20-9 in the third quarter to break open the game.
Olivia Henderson led the Shires with 22 points, including four baskets from behind the 3-point arc. Drew Warman added 17 for the Shires, while Mia Henderson had seven, Emma Swallow, Bre Barton and Emma Ardell each had four and Sam Johnson, Amelia Callnan and Gabby Gentle each had two.
For Caribou, Selena Savage tossed in 20 points, including four 3-pointers, while Sage Dubay had seven points, Emily Collins added six, and Mia Theriault and Gabrielle Sutherland both had four.
