HOULTON, Maine — Houlton took an early lead in its Feb. 11 match against Hodgdon, and never looked back, winning by a difference of 30 points as the Shires edged Hodgdon, 72-42.
The Shires scoring spree was led by guard Olivia Henderson, who scored 19 points; forward Mia Henderson (17 points) and center Emma Ardell (14 points). Guards Amelia Callnan and Drew Warman also scored multiple baskets to contribute to the scoring effort.
Houlton head coach Shawn Graham praised his team’s ability to take advantage of free-throw opportunities as key to the Shires victory, and said that the team had improved since their last matchup against Hodgdon the season, where the two teams played a close contest throughout until Houlton pulled away at the end for a victory.
“I thought in comparison to where we were the last time we played them, we’ve made some huge strides and improvements,” Graham said. “So tonight we were expecting a handful, and it was for a bit.”
For Hodgdon, the team was led in scoring by Sabra Scott, who scored 14 points. Anna Oliver and Aleyah Matheson both scored nine points apiece to aid Hodgdon.
