WALLAGRASS, Maine — A United Parcel Service driver delivering a package to a Wallagrass residence escaped injury when his walk-in truck was sideswiped by a pickup truck on Tuesday.

Lucas Cyr, 26, of Washburn — the driver of the 2010 UPS truck — had parked the vehicle in front of a Route 11 residence at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Cyr was in the back of the walk-in truck retrieving a package when a southbound 2010 Ford F-150 struck the UPS vehicle.

The operator of the Ford, Gary Theriault, 64, of Eagle Lake, was initially unable to identify the UPS vehicle due to snowy weather conditions and poor visibility, according to Maine State Police Trooper Matt Curtin.

Theriault attempted unsuccessfully to avoid the UPS truck, and the Ford pickup sideswiped the UPS vehicle before ultimately sliding off the roadway, police said.

Theriault became trapped in his pickup and was unable to free himself.

Members of the Eagle Lake Fire Department removed Theriault from the pickup using extraction equipment.

Theriault was transported to Northern Maine Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries.

Speed was not a factor in the crash and Theriault was wearing his seat belt, police said.
