WOODLAND, Maine — Woodland selectmen during a Feb. 23 meeting signed and approved the warrant for the upcoming town meeting, which will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, in the public works garage.
The total municipal budget for this year is $1,208,916, or $24,888 more than last year’s total of $1,184,028.
Fire and ambulance rates paid to the city of Caribou for the service, which were among last year’s most significant increases, will see a slight decrease this year. Last year, the town paid $114,800 for the city’s ambulance service, and this year that has dropped to $114,300. Likewise, the town paid $28,700 for fire services from Caribou last year, and this year will pay $28,575.
Compared to last year, the town has $17,300 more in anticipated revenues, or a total of $390,300, compared to last year’s total of $373,000.
The public works budget, which this year is $374,250, is an increase of $53,250 over last year’s total of $321,000. The increase will go toward equipment repair, road maintenance, salaries and salt and sand.
The town elections, set for 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 15, at the town office garage, will allow voters to choose one person for a three-year selectperson term and two people for a three-year school board term. Incumbent Thomas Drew is the only individual on the ballot for selectperson, and Ashley Brydon is the only person running for the school board. With two seats needed for the school board, the ballot will include two spaces for write-ins.
The school budget will be up for a town vote for approval in June.
