HOULTON, Maine — Two lucky residents have plenty of meat to stock their freezers with thanks to a raffle by the Houlton Community Market.
The Houlton Community Market held a pig raffle during their 2020 market season to raise funds for staffing of the market’s Vital Information Booth.
Community market board member Karin Morey and her husband Gerald raised a pig on their small farm in Hodgdon and worked with Todd Jandreau of Cedar Grove Meat Processing in Stockholm for the processing.
The Morey’s and Cedar Grove Meat Processing donated their services, allowing the market to benefit from the raffle 100-percent.
The two winners, each receiving a half pig, were Brittany Carmichael and Melissa Page, both of Houlton. Page purchased raffle tickets on behalf of her employees at Dead River, making all of her staff raffle winners.
