OAKFIELD, Maine — A distracted driver is being cited as the likely cause of an automobile rollover on Interstate 95 near Oakfield Friday morning.
Cpl. Chad Fuller of the Maine State Police stated in a press release that Audrey Violette, 32, of Island Falls was traveling north on Interstate 95 at about 7 a.m. in a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu when became distracted by something in her vehicle.
At that same time, Kenneth McNally, 50, of Sherman was also driving north on Interstate 95 in a 2013 Freightliner tractor trailer hauling a chip trailer, adjacent to Violette.
“As she became distracted, Ms. Violette drifted into the adjacent lane and drove under the rear tractor wheels of a northbound tractor trailer being driven by McNally,” Cpl. Fuller stated. “Her vehicle went under the rear wheels of the trailer, flipped over, and then skidded down the interstate coming to rest on a guardrail.”
Violette was eventually helped out of her vehicle by a good Samaritan, Fuller stated. She was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital by ambulance with what appeared to be minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the press release. The crash remains under investigation.
