Meeting — R.F. Flora and his wife returned last week from Waterville, where they attended a meeting of the proprietors of moving picture houses in Maine.
New appointment — Lynwood Wellington has been appointed by the selectmen as a member of the Board of Health. He has also been appointed Milk Inspector.
75 Years Ago – March 27, 1946
C. of C. memberships show steady increase — Six members have been added to the growing list of the Caribou Chamber of Commerce the past few days, and the total yesterday was 166, indicating a growing spirit for working together.
Caribou business remodeling — Hines and Smith Inc., hardware and sporting goods store dealers in Caribou for more than 50 years, closed their doors this week to undergo several remodeling changes to the store. There is no definite date for the reopening, says Jim Briggs, president of the business.
50 Years Ago – March 31, 1971
Trophy winner — Joey Thibodeau, son of Mr. & Mrs. Alfred Thibodeau, was presented the trophy given by the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad as the winner of the five kilometer ski race at the annual Stockholm Winter Carnival.
Off to Washington — Roy Doak, treasurer of the Caribou Music Parents Assn., presented a $5,000 check to Roy Barton, treasurer of the Cherry Blossom Fund Drive assuring the high school band that leaves Wednesday will be able to participate in the festival in Washington, D.C. Doak says considerable effort was put into the fund raising by students and parents in concerts, bottle sales, bean suppers and door-to-door sales. The band departs by bus at 10 o’clock this evening.
25 Years Ago – March 27, 1996
Scholarship recipient — Lori Jackson of Stockholm, a Caribou High School junior, was the recipient of a monetary donation to help sponsor her trip to the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts this summer. The check presentation was made recently by Gary McCrossin.
LCS/MSSM drama team — The collaborative drama troupe at the Limestone Community School and the Maine School of Science and Mathematics most recently presented the one act play, “These Wonderful Years” at the Northern Regional Drama Festival in Caribou. Sean Edgecomb, Robin Dowse and Kim Pietz were selected for the all festival cast and the set design received a judge’s commendation.
