100 Years Ago – April 28, 1921
Houlton boy to have a position in Mexico — Guy N. Carroll has recently accepted a position as a druggist at a Standard Oil Co.’s hospital in Tampico, Mexico, and will leave soon to take up his new duties.
New lunch room — The Baltimore Lunch Room, recently opened in the Pioneer building, is a model of neatness and convenience. Messers Davenport and Ormsby, the proprietors, will cater to those desiring a light, clean lunch, and experience that these gentlemen have and the large aquaintance which they will enjoy will without doubt bring to this new lunch room a large patronage.
75 Years Ago – April 24, 1946
Fishermen’s catch — A mess of trout was caught Tuesday evening in Sky Pond by fishermen Andrew Andrews and O.S. Allen, both of Houlton.
New police car — The Houlton Town Council voted on Monday evening to purchase a new Police car at a cost of $1,473 plus the trade in value of the old Ford in use now.
50 Years Ago – April 28, 1971
Togue to inhabit Nickerson Lake — The state plans to stock 1,100 togue at Nickerson Lake. Information on the stocking program was released by Glenn H. Manuel of Littleton, a member of the Advisory Council to the Inland Fisheries and Game Department.
Merger — A consultant for the proposed merger of the Aroostook General and Madigan Memorial Hospitals told the Rotary Club Monday noon that he expected ground for the new Houlton Regional Hospitals to be broken in the spring of 1972.
25 Years Ago – April 24, 1996
Give Away — At the Southern Aroostook Trade Show this year Houlton Tire will have their biggest booth ever. The company plans to top previous years giveaways by giving truck, pick-up, and car alignments. They will also give away hats and jackets to whoever stops at their booth at the Trade Show.
FM station to go on air with Youth – – Youth Broadcasting Corporation, a nonprofit corporation made up of concerned students and adults, is attempting to put a low-power FM station on the air in Houlton, broadcasting on 89.1 FM. Broadcasting will be less than three miles from the studio at 101 Bangor St. in Houlton.
