The Mapleton Daze Committee asks residents and visitors to join them as they host a COVID-19 Memorial Ceremony on June 21.
This past year has been hard on many people in our communities and beyond. The Committee wants to take the opportunity to honor those we lost in Aroostook County and the state of Maine.
For this ceremony, they will have public speakers, Pastor Nathan Gardiner, local singers and many others who will participate. Biodegradable remembrance balloons will be released to represent each Aroostook County person lost to COVID-19. There will be tree seedlings as well as flower seed packets for those in attendance to take home to plant in honor of those who were lost.
The committee hopes everyone can attend and help them kick off Mapleton Daze 2021 with this touching ceremony. Mapleton Daze is scheduled to run from June 21 through June 26.
Lions Memorial Day ceremonies
The Mapleton Lions Club wants everyone to know that the club is going forward with its annual Memorial Day parade and remembrance ceremony.
This year Michael Ireland, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps, will be the Mapleton Memorial Day parade grand marshal. Ireland is currently the associate pastor of the Mapleton United Methodist Church and in that capacity he will participate in the Memorial Day remembrance ceremony by offering the invocation and benediction prayers.
The Mapleton Lions Club hopes this will be one of the largest parades that they have had in several years. Organizations, businesses and individuals are encouraged to come and join in the parade. The parade will assemble at 1:30 p.m. on the Dudley Road and will step off at 2 p.m.
The remembrance ceremony will be held 15 minutes after the conclusion of the parade at the Veterans Memorial, which is located at the Mapleton Elementary School.
